Listen to me Friday on Sex Out Loud podcast

This Friday, July 14th at 8 p.m. EST I'll be talking live with host Tristan Taormino on Sex Out Loud podcast about On Fire: Erotic Romance Stories, which comes out Tuesday in ebook form (and August 8 in print and very soon in audiobook) from Cleis Press. I'll be joined by three contributors: Donna George Storey, whose stocking fetish tale "Sensitive to the Touch," opens the book, Angela R. Sargenti, whose "Masquerade" is a very hot vampire erotic story, and Lawrence Westerman, who wrote an incredible femdom BDSM story, "Dreams Made Flesh." And a reminder that through this Saturday, July 15, I'm giving away 15 autographed copies of the On Fire print edition (U.S. only) over at Goodreads, and I do monthly giveaways in my author newsletter open to anyone in the world - the July newsletter already went out, but the August newsletter will have a Women in Lust giveaway.

Listen in then and subscribe to Sex Out Loud in iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts so you can hear us if you miss the live broadcast.

22 sexy stories are out today in my new book Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 1

The good news: Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 1, my best book but also the one with the least catchy title, is out today in print and ebook!

BWEOfThe Year_approved

I could give you the marketing blurb or back cover copy or any of those official type promotions, but here's what I will tell you: this book made me think about sex in entirely new ways (especially "Waiting to Pee"). It surprised me and awed me and impressed me and turned on both my body and my mind. I've been rereading stories to prepare for the big day and each time, I see turns of phrase and sexy nuances I hadn't noticed before. These are erotic stories, but they are very much stories with fully fleshed out, fleshy, hungry, eager, daring characters. They aren't all perfect, but they all are true to themselves and their desires, no matter how messy or complex or not socially acceptable. And for that, I applaud them and am thrilled to have them nestled between my book's pages.

Here's all the stores I know of where you can buy it (see also links below), from online retailers to awesome sex toy stores (hey bookstores! I want to add you to that list and I'm pretty sure your customers will love all the hotness and creativity! write me at bweoftheyear at gmail.com if you see the book anywhere else and I will add it ASAP - my dream is for that list to be looooong). The bad news is I'll be offline most of the day moving, but back to good news, I have plans to blog about each and every story and why I picked it and it's awesome and you should read it.

In the meantime, I've got excerpts to share with you from two of the stories:
"The Assistant" by Tiffany Reisz and "Scents & Sexuality" by Doriana Chase

You can follow @BWEoftheYear on Twitter and the book's Facebook page and Tumblr and Instagram for the latest news.

And pretty pretty please: if you're in San Francisco, come to our reading one week from tonight, on Tuesday, January 19th, from 6:30-8:30 at Good Vibrations, 1620 Polk Street, San Francisco, with me, Amy Butcher, Rose Caraway, Dorothy Freed and Jade A. Waters. If you can't make it, let your Bay Area friends know! I booked this entire California trip so that I could launch the book with a splash, live and in person (with snippets coming to social media for those who can't be there), and would love to have a packed house. I didn't get to do as much non-social media outreach as I usually would so any word spreading would be wonderful. The reading is on Facebook and Fetlife if that's easier.

Help me spread the word about Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 1 with Thunderclap

A warning: you may soon get sick of me gushing about Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 1 (link to brand new official site, which will have more info on it soon). I promise this blog won't exclusively turn into a why-I'm-so-excited-about-my-new-book blog, but I hope you'll indulge me a little. I'm moving in January, just a block away, but have started packing. The first thing to be packed were my two perfectly organized bookcases, filled about 3/4 of the way with anthologies I've edited or contributed to, plus other beloved books.

BWEOfThe Year_approved

Taking that trip down memory lane reminded me, yet again, of how far I've come. Sometimes I have flashbacks to sobbing at my desk near South Street Seaport during a job somewhere around my law school days in the late 90's whose exact purpose I can't quite remember. My life back then was basically me running from one disaster to the next. I never let myself step back and say, What do I really want to do with my life? because I was afraid of what the answer would be. (Truth: sometimes I'm still afraid of that question, but now I ask it anyway.)

Flash forward 16 or so years later, and I sometimes have to pinch myself because, while my life isn't perfect, I've accomplished so many things I wouldn't even let myself imagine back then. I never want to forget the milestones along the way, and I never want to stop encouraging other people to pursue their dreams. How did I wind up with my 61st anthology about to be published? It started with one story, my very first, "Monica and Me."

monicandmerose

Then another one, then another one, and so on. Then I got asked to co-edit an anthology. Back then, I used Erotica Readers & Writers Association (though I'm pretty sure it was titled just Erotica Readers Association when I started out) to find out where to submit work, which I still do, along with social media.

I'm not suggesting it's all been a breeze, but I am stating firmly that my journey to editing 61 anthologies began with one story, driven by my personal fascination with Monica Lewinsky. Now when I read or hear that story, I hear the parts that I would change if I were writing it now, but I'm still so proud of it, because it set me off into this world. Did I have a master plan back then? Hardly. I was figuring out my life post-law school, grappling with the first and still most epic failure of my life, but I was drawn to this form of writing. I'd never written fiction before (save for a childhood short story, of the very G-rated kind) but I'd been reading lots of erotica, and I was drawn to it, so I went for it. That's pretty much how I got started. I didn't research, save for all the reading I'd been doing for fun. I think what made that story sell to two anthologies (Starf*cker and Best Lesbian Erotica 2001) is that it was a unique take on a ubiquitous person, and that I put myself into the story. In my case, literally, with a character named Rachel, but what I mean here is that I put a topic I had a personal interest in into my fiction. That's not necessarily the case for every fiction or nonfiction piece I've written since, but the stories of mine I feel have best stood the test of time are the ones that have the most "me" in them. If I had to boil down my advice for new erotica writers, that would be it: put yourself into the story. Not literally per se, but your passion, your knowledge, your interests, your humanity. (Want daily advice from me and four weeks of in-depth work? Take my next LitReactor 4-week online erotica writing class, which runs February 11-March 10.)

You can read my introduction to Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 1 on Tumblr, where you'll also find a Q&A with me about my second person story "Flying Solo". If you want to show your support for the book, I'd love if you'd join the Thunderclap campaign.

thunderclaplogo

You select your Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr account (or all three!) and essentially let Thunderclap post one time, on January 12th, letting your followers know the book is out. The idea behind it is to do a social media blast at the same time en masse, to get the most traction on publication day. I would greatly appreciate it, and can thank you (if you're in the U.S.) by sending you a free postcard (just fill out that Wufoo form and I'll send it right off). Or just know that you have my many thanks! I'm devoting most of my December and January, when not packing or writing, to marketing and promoting this book because I am so proud of it and want my authors to be as widely read as possible.

Anything you can do to spread the word, whether in person or online, is much appreciated. You can also keep up with BWE of the Year (for short, since I know the title is super long!) on Facebook and @BWEoftheYear on Twitter. Writers: stay tuned for a new call for submissions from me, coming soon, which will be posted on my Lusty Lady blog, as well as Twitter, Facebook and in my monthly newsletter.

Dirty Dates is here early!

Working on a book can be a long and lonely process. Even an anthology. Yes, it's social in the sense that I get to work with lots of other authors, but I'm doing that work via email, at home, alone. Even though I've been through the process over 50 times, my anthologies still feel like words on a screen or a page until I hold the book in my hands. So now that my latest, Dirty Dates: Erotic Fantasies for Couples is officially in stock on Amazon (in paperback; the ebook release date is November 16th), it's both a relief and the start of the exciting part: sharing my book.

dirtydatesbox

This one is special, because while it's for sale early, its official publication date is on my 40th birthday, November 10th. I'll be spending the day sharing lots of other people's posts about the book and simply celebrating a new stage of my life and this latest book, one I'm very proud of.

My new book has bigger cleavage than I do!

My new BDSM erotica anthology, Dirty Dates: Erotic Fantasies for Couples, will officially be published on my 40th birthday, November 10, 2015. Buying links below; alas, the ebook doesn't publish until November 16th. But today my doorbell rang and there was an early birthday present, the first I've received: the copies I ordered of my new book, which has bigger cleavage than I do! My arms are short, so my selfie is not to scale, but I like it anyway and am so excited that this book of extremely hot stories by very talented authors, many of whom I'm publishing for the first time, will be in readers' hands very soon. Some of the retailers below still have an old version of the cover, but as you can see from me holding the book in my hand, the sexier cover is the final one! You can also follow the book @dirtydatesbook on Twitter and on Facebook for news and excerpts, and if you want to show your support ahead of the book's publication, why not add Dirty Dates to your Goodreads want to read list? I've also got free postcards that I'm giving out at my upcoming events and to my newsletter subscribers - sign up for the newsletter at rachelkramerbussel.com and stay tuned for November's!

My new book Come Again: Sex Toy Erotica is out!

My new anthology Come Again: Sex Toy Erotica is out now!

IMG_3090

Well, it's in stock on Amazon.com and literally on its way to other stores right now. I have a spiffy new website new website for it and launched it with Q&As with several of the authors (more are coming): Jillian Boyd, author of "Dare You To," the opening story about an engaged couple having some fun with toys, including nipple clamps with bells on them; Malin James, author of "The Prototype," one of a few stories about fictional sex toys, and Katya Harris, author of "Surprise," and I will keep her tale's sex toy, fittingly, a surprise. Stay tuned for events, including the online Facebook book release party, a June 3 reading in Portland, Maine, and hopefully a mid-September reading in San Francisco.

I've been posting some photos on Twitter (@comeagainbook) and Facebook featuring images of toys similar to the ones in the book, like this:

Home and blissed out from CatalystCon

After having been away from home for 10 days, I have a lot to process and a few deadlines, plus today my boyfriend and I are mostly playing hooky and might go see While We're Young and just generally enjoy a rare weekday together. But I wanted to mostly share the sense of excitement and possibility I left this CatalystCon with, as I always do. The people I meet there are so inspiring, whether they are talking about asexuality or erotica or sex ed or just Cards Against Humanity and general life. It's hard to summarize in words but was so wonderful to see people from all over the U.S. and beyond talk, discuss, debate, learn, connect, and entertain each other. That is why I go to CatalystCon and why I will be at CatalystCon West in Burbank from September 11-13 (visit their site tomorrow to see the panel pitching details). To get a sense of what happened there this weekend, follow the #ccon hashtag on Twitter and check out the CatalystCon Instagram account.

It was also the perfect place to launch my brand new, hot off the press anthology Come Again: Sex Toy Erotica. I am proud to say that you can now get autographed copies at Red Emma's in Baltimore (they were the official bookseller at CatalystCon East) and that the book is now shipping from Amazon, and will be in stock at other stores any day now and out as an ebook April 14th. I loved being able to hand deliver copies to people who work in wonderful sex toy stores I admire like Forbidden Fruit in Austin and Dynamo Toys in New Orleans and Secret Pleasures in Washington, DC.

I loved that I was launching a sex toy anthology while the Sybian was across the room being demonstrated. I loved that everywhere I looked was someone I wanted to talk to. I loved that people who said things like "I don't know anything about art" sat down and made a card anyway with ArtPulp. It was a wonderful, magical weekend, one that pushed me to get past what is sometimes still my fear of public speaking or saying the wrong thing to be part of the opening keynote panel. I strongly encourage you to go to the next one if you have an interest in learning more about sexuality and activism of all kinds, or presenting. I will recap my wonderful panel on sharing our personal sex stories in various public artistic modes of expression soon, but wanted to share some early morning thoughts (I fell asleep last night at 9 and woke up this morning at 5, so that may give you an idea of how tired I was). Does that mean I have 100% of every thought in common with everyone who attended CatalystCon? Not at all. But I think it's safe to say even though I didn't get to speak with everyone there, anyone attending is someone I have something I could talk about with. The discussions I had outside of formal panels and sessions where among the most fascinating things about the conference. Some were about sex and sexuality related issues, and some were about general life. I truly cannot say enough good things about the conference, and the fact that there were so many first time attendees this year I think reflects that people are hearing about it and whatever their profession or hobbies, thinking, I could see myself as part of that world.

IMG_3090

Here's me with my new book; today I will also be sending out copies to everyone who signed up to review it on Amazon. Get on my newsletter (left hand side of this blog or of my site, rachelkramerbussel.com) for new freebies and more info.

Bookstores where you can find Best Bondage Erotica 2015, or I love the words "on our shelves now"

If you've been to more than a handful of independent bookstores in the United States, you'll know that often erotica is scarce. I make it a point to visit bookstores while traveling and aside from Barnes & Noble (where you can also buy this book and I hope you will because that shows them there's a market for kinky erotica from independent publishers), it's often slim pickings. So I want to give an extra special, you-make-my-anthology-work-possible shoutout to the stores that do carry my books. Please buy from them (not just my books but any books), because that is the way they will know there's an audience for the types of books you like. Plus you can always ask your local bookstore to order a book for you.

Based on the information I've received from my publisher Cleis Press, these stores have ordered Best Bondage Erotica 2015 and should have it in stock. There are surely others, but these are the ones I could check out and link to, and I'm happy to update this if other stores want to get in on this hot book action. They are in no particular order save for the order the list was given to me. To make this totally clear, most of these stores have ordered 1, 2 or 3 copies of the book. I've never worked in a bookstore so don't know exactly how the process wrks, but I imagine if people are buying and asking for the book, they will order more. In the long run, that is what determines if books like these keep getting published. If they don't have it on the shelves, ask for it, and if they do, if you send me at bestbondagerotica2015 at gmail.com a photo of the book in their store along with the store name and city that I have your permission to post online (with credit if you want it), and you also send me your mailing address, I will send you a postcard or bookmark in return!

Happy release day Best Bondage Erotica 2015 ebook!

I sometimes feel like my books get two release days: the day the print edition is for sale on Amazon, which is usually before it hits brick and mortar stores, and the day the ebook comes out. Today, for Best Bondage Erotica 2015, print and ebook are for sale, and I'm sharing more links below and shortly will post all the stores that have ordered a copy. I don't know how many more erotica books I'll be editing going forward (I have a few completed ones that will be coming out in 2015 and 2016) as I focus on building the best business I can for myself and transition into writing and teaching for the most part, but I love this book, I love that I got to publish so many new to the genre authors, I love that it's so fun and creative (kinky camping! kinky yoga! home repair plus bondage! knitting as bondage tool!). Don't be confused if you see the old cover (not the one below) on Amazon or elsewhere; that was an early mockup of the cover that got changed at the last minute by my publisher and I'm doing my best to rid the internet of the old version in favor of the real and crazy hot new one.

I truly hope it reaches people who are looking for a sexy read, no matter your personal interest in bondage. I've always believed that a good erotica story should transcend its specific kinks or subgenre. Yes, if you're into bondage, you will likely enjoy a book with this title more than someone not into bondage, but I certainly don't think you have to like or know the first thing about bondage to appreciate the craft, sexiness, humor and hotness of this book. The heart of these stories isn't so much bondage as the relationships between the characters, whether it's the gay male couple making their way to the altar by hook or by crook in "Tying The Knot" by Rob Rosen or the devilish business minds trying to outdo each other in "Bound to Lie" by Nichelle Gregory. And, of course, this is the 5th in the annual series I've edited, so you can also check out Best Bondage Erotica 2011, Best Bondage Erotica 2012, Best Bondage Erotica 2013 and Best Bondage Erotica 2014. Don't be fooled by the dates on them; these have kink with no expiration date and are still as sexy as the day they came out. The great downside of an annual anthology is the cliff drop in sales the moment the calendar changes, but some of these have continued to have a life, I think in part because bondage is so popular.

Here's the deal: anything you can do to help this book as it launches into the world is much appreciated. You can leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon, reblog from our Tumblr, follow us @bestbondage on Twitter and like us on Facebook and spread the word there.

Pretty erotica bookmarks and postcards

And I've got these lovely free postcards and bookmarks! Want one? Just come to any of my upcoming events in Brooklyn, Richmond, Charlottesville (Virginia), Baltimore or CatalystCon in Arlington, Virginia and I'd be happy to give you one!

Happy editor weekend: my new book Baby Got Back: Anal Erotica has arrived!

I got a gift yesterday of my copies of Baby Got Back: Anal Erotica, a few days earlier than expected! I get mine straight from the printer, and send them out to my awesome Amazon.com reviewers before they're even in stores. For this one, I have 3 copies left, so if you want a copy and will review it within 6 weeks of receipt, are in the U.S. and have an Amazon.com account, email me at analantho at gmail.com with "Amazon" in the subject line and your name and address in the body. I'll hit the post office tomorrow! More excerpts coming soon. It's my first anal sex erotica anthology and I'm thrilled with its variety. If you like it, I'd love it if you rated it on Goodreads too. Thank you so much for such a great response to this book already. I love the cover and the cleverness and hoteness the authors brought to anal play. If this one does well, I definitely plan to pitch another anal erotica book! (I'll update this post when these 3 are spoken for.)
