Lunch in Paris ... in Brooklyn!

If you're not coming to my kick-ass even though it's snowing erotica writing workshop tomorrow at Shag (you have 3 other chances, though each class is unique - February 13 and 27 and March 6), you might want to check out this event at The Brooklyn Kitchen. I've started Lunch in Paris by Elizabeth Bard (sent to me courtesy of the publisher) and even though I know almost nothing about Paris or cooking, I'm enjoying it. See The Brooklyn Kitchen to sign up ($25). See also Elizabeth Bard's food-filled blog Lunch in Paris. Here's a photo from it:

And she's @ElizabethBard on Twitter and has a Facebook fan page (or rather, her memoir does).

Bouquet of roses, or bouquet of thyme? Elizabeth Bard, author of Lunch in Paris: A Love Story with Recipes and Giulia Melucci, author of I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti talk about finding love and loving food in Paris and New York. They will also show you how to whip up some pre-Valentine’s Day goodies – for lovers or friends. In honor of the long-standing French tradition of drinking in the middle of the afternoon, cocktail aficionado Mayur Subbarao of Mayahuel will be shaking some Parisian style cocktails.

Tax Day = Cooking for Broke Dummies

Update: Whoops, blogged too soon. Apparently it's sold out so I'm not going because I stupidly didn't book in advance. But now I can go hear Storked! blogger and Rattled! author Christine Coppa read at B&N in the Village. Please come check out Emily for FREE with tons of free snacks on Thursday at In The Flesh!

My friend Emily Farris of the blog and cookbook Casserole Crazy is teaching a class called Cooking for Broke Dummies Wednesday night at The Brooklyn Kitchen in Williamsburg!

Are you tired of spending $20 a night on takeout? Do your parents tease you about not knowing how to boil water? Come to Cooking for Broke Dummies where Emily Farris, author of "Casserole Crazy: Hot Stuff for Your Oven" will show you the basics of making dinner on the cheap. Save for a few kitchen staples, you'll leave knowing how to make at least five dinners for under $5 each.

It's $25. I'm going. Oh, and Emily is also reading on Thursday at Virgin Night at In The Flesh.

Ramen!

Tonight at 7 at:

Union Pool
484 Union
Williamsburg, Brooklyn

How can I resist a Ramen cookoff right in my neighborhood? I don't think I'll be competing but if I'm home in time I will be checking this out. Congratulations to The Brooklyn Kitchen on their 2-year anniversary!

All dishes arrive ready to serve. There will be no heat source, sterno or otherwise.
All entries must be able to serve the 3 judges, and as always, bring more to increase your chances of popular vote
All entries must include the brick: the instant ramen noodle block that comes in most 25 cent packages of Top Ramen (Made in USA!) or equivalent.
There is no requirement for the seasoning packet, you can employ it or not
This is not a soup competition: all dishes of varying viscosity will be allowed. Thinking dessert, my ramen-loving burnout friends? Bring it, i want to taste your stoner ramen pie.
Party begins at 7, judging begins at 8. Popular vote will be determined using whatever crazy-ass method we come up with at 9ish.
There will be prizes.
UPDATE! please bring a copy of your recipe, so that we may feature it (credited, of course) on our blog!
