Where would we be without the Smart Bitches?

You almost don't even really need to read the totally condescending inanity that both sides of the "Are romance novels bad for women?" debate over at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are spewing. Just read the response from Smart Bitches Trashy Books:

And all this clucking and flapping over female porn always makes me wonder: are female orgasms so terrifying? Seriously, why are people so damn worked up over women getting turned on and rubbin’ one out? Every time a woman masturbates, are TWO kittens killed instead of just one? I want to know, because I’d like to know how many kittens I’ve killed last week.

In college, holed up in some Berkeley library being a complete nerd (see? not much has changed), I read Jayne Ann Krentz's Dangerous Men and Adventurous Women. Who knows where my copy is, but maybe both the AJC ladies should check that out. Also, I know it's a minority of the market but . . . there are lesbian and gay romance novels. And not everyone who reads romances is straight or worried about a nosy spouse catching you online or whatever garbled garbage these authors are talking about. Seriously, one might forget that it's...2007.

Maybe they can come to my talk (or whatever it is I'm doing, details to be arranged) on (gasp!) Erotic Writing at Sex 2.0. Let's invite them!

Yes!! They definitely need to come to Sex 2.0!

(And, for future reference and as a PSA, no one should read the AJC's "Woman to Women" column. It's an astounding piece of shit.)

I feel compelled to point out that my earnest "Yes" was sarcastic.

I'm torn now, though. Should they come to Sex 2.0? Maybe, if they promise to keep their mouths shut. But I'm not sure that kind of negativity should be there at all.

    What a conundrum.
